1. In the story of A Rose for Emily - William Faulkner, "The mayor Colonel Sartoris invented an involved tale to the effect that Miss Emily's father had loan money to the town..." in order that Emily did not pay taxes in Jefferson. In your point of view, is it an irresponsible action if someone does not pay taxes to the place where he/she lives?

2. After Emily's father death, she went out very little; after her sweetheart went away, people hardly saw her at all. In your viewpoint, why did Emily isolate herself? Is it good to get out of people or friends when you are sad because of losing something?

3. Why did Emily's father drive all the men away from her? Was it good for her?

4. In your life, have you ever done something supposed to be good, but actually not as a result?
